About

After many years as a retail buyer and manager in the heritage sector, I was ready for a change and decided to retrain as a proofreader. As well as working with the written word every day, I liked the idea of being my own boss and working from home.

I discovered reading as a small child and have never looked back. In my spare time I write book reviews for Rosie Amber’s Book Review Team and NetGalley. I find this helps me understand the writing process; I struggle with a three-hundred-word review, so can appreciate just what is involved in finishing a book.

I trained with the Publishing Training Centre, and passed their Basic Proofreading distance learning course with merit. I followed this up by studying with the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading), completing Proofreading 2 and their Mentoring scheme.

I graduated from Glasgow University with an MA in History of Art and French. I would be happy to work on most subjects, but areas of special interest are:

  • Art and architecture
  • History
  • English literature
  • Music
  • Popular culture
  • Fiction
  • Cooking
  • Knitting
  • Sewing and crafts
